So had my colour meeting two days ago. Arrived at 1pm at European Ceramics, with my 2 year old and 7 week old.
It was a huge rush in the end, didn't get time to photograph my selections or take samples, last few items were decided in 2 seconds, it was so chaotic. At least my kids behaved like angels.
The designer was very friendly, but she was also quite pushy. She would never bother to show me samples of what I asked for and kept pushing her ideas in my face, it was really frustrating and time wasting, because I will not be swayed. Because I had bub in my arms I couldn't just go and grab the samples I liked and when I finally did, she had the upper hand as she would just move them out of my reach and keep showing me her ones again.
She showed me colours for the exterior walls, she didn't have the whole selection in sample form. Luckily I have already checked out the colour range and picked Electra. (A beige with a slight pink hue) I had to show her on the Solver sample pack. I then picked the Coffee Bean roof.
When it came to portico colour, I'd previously already decided on either Cheyenne, Mink or Holmes. She was very reluctant to consider these and wanted to use another old beigey brown colour. We settled on Holmes. It's a reddish purplish colour.
Fascia and gutters were difficult, as I'd originally wanted beigey gutters and dark brown fascia. She wanted them all in white or all in black. We settled on white. (Or Surfmist, as it's called.)
We decided on surfmist window frames, and surfmist garage door (unless I upgrade to Cedar at Prestart, which is a timber door).
Downpipes will be changed to the crappier zinc material so we can paint it to match the colours of the house. A shame, but colourbond really has a very limited selection of colours.
Bricks will be cream rustic, you only see them at the sides and back, as front will be rendered in Electra.
Door will be timber veneer, will post a pic when I confirm which door.
Door knobs upgraded to door handles in matt silver. Post a pic after confirming which handle.
Interior doors and frames are white, switches in matt silver again.
Floorboards are wood laminate, I chose a slightly reddish floorboard.
Carpet was a dark colour, kind of dark grey with a tiny bit of mulberry tinge.
I'll clarify the names after I've been to Trevor's Carpets to confirm I like them. See what I mean about having not enough time. Also, I'll add, the carpet selection was rubbish, it was 3 creamy colours and 3 dark. I want in between!!
Kitchen bench is absolute creme. I took ages here because I wanted either a light bright kitchen or one of those rustic ones that have black benchtops with dark wood cupboards. Both looked lovely, but the dark one suited my floorboards best, but I just couldn't imagine it in my house. In the end, got the creme bench top which I love, and dark cupboards. In between I guess. I really hope it looks ok in the end.
Bathroom tiles took forever because she was so stubborn and wouldn't get the tiles off the shelves that I liked. I said I like brown, but she only ever brought creams or whites back. It was SO annoying. Finally I walked whilst breastfeeding through the isles and demanded the lovely chocolate one I loved last time I came, and a few others, and managed to finally decide on chocolate feature wall, and a sandy brown floor with the same colour in gloss for the other walls. I would have liked to have all the brown toned tiles to choose from but I really only had a few because she just kept running away every time we came to them and I didn't have any free hands to take them myself.
I wanted the ensuite to be different to the other bathroom but we had no time. We then remembered we hadn't done the kitchen splashback! It was already 40 mins late so one of the workers picked a tile and I was like Ok fine. :/ Grout selection was awful as well, they didn't even have a brown grout.
Bathroom vanities have a bench called Rock Salt which is a creamy light stone colour, (cannot find it on website for some reason) and the cupboards are called Bronzeworks.
The creamy bench goes right against the chocolate brown feature tile, so it will look quite effective I think.
To be honest I was so doubtful about my whole bathroom choices till I got home and had time to properly envision it, and also to check laminex website for the colours of the vanity. Happy now :D.
So I'm feeling miffed that I didn't get to thoroughly peruse all my tile choices, but I'm fairly certain we got the best match anyway. That chocolate brown tile is hard to match, but it was just a must have.
I'm really uncertain about my kitchen splash back. It looked good but I'll always wonder if there was something more outstanding.
I'm really considering going back to the ceramic place, but I don't have the benchtop sample to compare them.
Paving I have to get quoted coz I want the beautiful stone looking ones, but I think they may be insanely $$$$ so i also selected "Mocha" square pavers in case.
Prestart is in 5 days, and I'm really hoping that goes more smoothly.
